Woodlands Community Cafe

Woodlands Community Cafe opened in 2014. Since then it has provided a welcoming space where 70-80 local people meet on a Monday evening to share a healthy, home-cooked meal and get to know others in their community.

The Cafe is run on a pay-what-you-can basis, and is free for people on low income. It has been really successful in helping to reduce isolation in Woodlands and supporting people going through difficult times.

If you’d like to join us for a meal, just come along for a cuppa to the Fred Paton Centre, 19 Carrington St, on Monday evening before the meal is served at 6pm. No need to pre-book.

All new visitors to the Cafe receive a warm welcome. Our staff support a team of volunteers who prepare the meal and they organise a programme of interesting and enjoyable cookery and wellbeing workshops throughout the year.

The vegetarian food is always tasty and nutritious, making creative and sustainable use of ingredients donated by local supermarkets or grown in our nearby Community Garden.

We also work with a range of different partners to offer information and advice for Cafe guests on issues relating to welfare, health and wellbeing and nutrition. Outside the regular Monday Cafe, we run cookery workshops, including a Homework Cafe delivered in partnership with Queens Cross Housing Association.

We also run a volunteer training programme that gives our volunteers new skills, increased confidence and help in getting into employment.
