our 2 week CLIMATE EMERGENCY EVENTS PROGRAMME for COP26

Join us for a day of Anti-Racist Community Engagement.

Music, Talks, Comedy, Art, Books

We will host talks from local charities discussing the connections between anti racist work and climate justice. Come along to hear guest speakers from Baba Yangu Foundation, Safe in Scotland and MORE - Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment.

This day is predominantly centred around people connected to our Anti-Racist Community Library Project. We will have live stand up comedy from Nico Ndlovu + friends, live music from R.AGGS & Robert Alston with additional music from Pauline Bradley of Sound Inspirations. Alongside an art exhibition featuring a short film titled, HOME and a selection of prints made using recycled materials. by local artist Fouzia Zafar in our Community Meeting Room.

About the artists/guest speakers:

  • R.AGGS is a Glasgow based musician that plays in many brilliant bands (Sacred Paws, Trash Kit, Shopping) They also host guitar listening workshops and make zines that feature in our A-R Library where they regularly volunteer. Listen to R.AGGS’ music here.

  • Robert Alston is one of the founding members of The Clay Pits Nature Reserve. He has been volunteering at COP 26 and our Anti-Racist Library and is a regular attendee of our Anti-Racist Community Reflection Group.

  • Yvonne Blake from MORE Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment. Yvonne Blake is a migrant rights Anti-Racist and Climate Justice Activist. She is a member of the COP26 Coalition and the co founder of MORE a migrant led grass roots organisation campaigning for Asylum seeking people access to employment, education, decent housing and dignity.   • Pauline Bradley is a singer/songwriter and founder of Sound Inspirations which uses music, rhythm and creativity for healing and inspiring vulnerable people. Pauline has 2 CDs "No Borders, No Barriers" and for Cop26 "From Red Clydeside to Green Revolution ". She has some gigs and workshops during Cop26 including "Singing our way to Freedom" participatory workshop on November 8th, taking part in The Workers Story Project at Gal Gael on 10th November, 7pm

  • Agatha Kabera is the founding member of Baba Yangu Foundation. and is a member of our Anti-Racist Group's community. Baba Yangu foundation is a registered charity that works both in the UK and Uganda, Africa. In the UK, more specifically Glasgow, our charity focuses on mental health issues in African and Afro-Caribbean communities. In Uganda, our charity works with street child and single mothers fighting poverty and empowering and equipping people to overcome mental and physical barriers, for them to live healthy and happy lives.   • Medi Saki works for Safe in Scotland. He will talk about his charity and asylum’s issues / life in the UK. Alongside human rights issues and why people fled persecutions. You can support their work here: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/13698#!/DonationDetails

  • Nico Ndlovu is a stand up comedian who runs, That Guy Comedy Show info here. Alongside many other projects! Notably, SIYAKHULAMA Listen here. SIYAKHULAMA it means We talk. Ndebele language in Zimbabwe. On the podcast we talk about things that matters in our daily lives and everyone is welcome here. The purpose for the podcast is to create a safe platform that gives Asylum seekers and refugees and communities their voices to be heard by sharing experiences and Stories and raising awareness on the treatment of Asylum Seekers in the UK. Nico is a regular attendee of our Anti-Racist Community Reflection group and Climate Action Group.

  • Fouzia Zafar is a local visual artist working in a diversity of media, including paint, print and video. She will be showing a short film HOME and a selection of prints made using recycled materials. Her short film “HOME” is a playful collage of memories, images and sounds “stitched” together to create a nostalgic snapshot of growing up in Woodlands.
