MORE INFO
For July’s Garden social we will have birding conversation with birding expert and artist Scott Rogers followed by live music from Blair Coron in our Community Garden.
From 2-3PM Scott is inviting you to come along with your birding questions for a fun session for all ages. There will be birdie books, bird poems and stories read aloud, and a bird-related craft activity. Scott will offer tips on attracting birds, how to identify them using different senses, and interesting outdoor places around Glasgow that you can visit. Come along and connect to the garden, the birds and wider community. Scot’s bio: Scott Rogers (he / him) grew up in Treaty 7 territory Calgary in Canada, and has lived in Glasgow for the last ten years. He is an artist, and also a very keen birder. Since childhood Scott has been an avid nature enthusiast, and he loves to share his knowledge and passion for the outdoors.
You can follow Scott on Instagram @glas_eun for regular updates on birding experiences in the Clyde area. Scott is also an artist you can check out his work here
Following the session of birding with Scott, musician Blair Coron will close the event 3-3:30 with a short set of ambient and modern classical music with a selection of pieces from his most recent project ‘Cairn’. A collection of new music composed by Blair, accompanied by archival voice recordings of people who once lived in early 20th century Scotland and featuring birdsong from the Isle of Canna in 1951.
Blair’s bio: Blair Coron (he/him) is a musician, poet and lover of nature from Springfield, a small village in Fife. His quiet and intimate music blends modern classical, folk and traditional storytelling, with nature, people, time and place being common themes throughout. Blair’s primary intention is to create enchanting atmospheres that sets course for introspection.
After the success of his debut album ‘On The Nature of Things’, Blair released his second album and accompanying film ‘Cairn’. A celebration of Scottish heritage, a thank you to all it has given so far, containing new music set to archival interviews of those living in the Highlands and Islands during the early 20th century discussing local legends, childhood reminiscences and traditions long forgotten.
Following this, he was commissioned by the School of Scottish Studies Archives to help curate, and compose for, a new exhibition made to enhance viewers experiences and connections to visual and audio materials from the Scottish Archives. Open until Sep. 30, with the music for this as an EP on August 18th.
Blair regularly provides sanctuary to other similar musicians, whose music does not fit within the traditional performance venue, through his popular concert series titled ‘Píu’, which he co-founded and hosts. It is a space for quieter musicians and artists who wish to erase the divide between audience and performer and share their creations in an intimate setting. You can listen to Blairs album Cairn here.
