MORE INFO

This is the first in a series of five workshops for People of Colour led by Keng Keng Watt, which will use communal quilt making as a way to explore practices of collective resting. The overarching focus of the sessions is on recreating feelings of sanctuary, safety, and ways of finding peace and collective healing in a racist society.

In this first session there will be space to discuss memories which help to recall feelings of home and belonging. Using the five senses as a framework, participants will be invited to write words, draw, make sounds, explore textures and smells to think about what being in a ‘safe space’ means for them. There will also be an introduction to the history of global quilting practices, and as well as time to talk about what kind of patches people would like to make, and how they might all come together to make the final group quilt.

The sessions are open to all ages though under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult who is also a POC.
