Window Light Up - Lighting up Woodlands Diwali & Deepmala Celebration

  • Millenium Park ashley street Glasgow G3 6HW (map)

Take a moment to join Woodlands Community in learning about this popular Indian festival.

The 14th November highlights an important holiday for both Hindu and Sikh traditions. For Hindu's, the day is a called Diwali representing the day Ram came back from 14 years of exile. The tradition celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance.

For Sikh's the day is known as Deepmala or Bandi Chor Diwas. It is the day their 6th guru, Guru Hargobond Singh Ji was freed from a wrongly sentenced 2-year imprisonment.  Upon his return the Golden Temple was lit up with clay oil lamps and still is to this day to uphold that light that was within the guru and in the hope that it may shine in every one of us.
