Book To Read
At our last meeting we decided on reading "Sweet Mandarin" by Helen Tse. The group decided to read this book together over the next 4 weeks (for 16 December).
Please send an email to eo@woodlandscommunity.org.uk if you need any financial assistance with purchasing a book.
During our fortnightly session on 2 December we will be discussing the following
Mangrove the first of Steve McQueen’s New series “SMALL AXE” up on BBC iPlayer. This anthology series of short films are vivid stories of hard-won victories in the face of racism in the UK.
And the following 2 podcasts:
Podcast 1: Scottish Poetry and Slavery episode with Lisa Williams (author/poet) and Hannah Lavery (poet/playwright/performer) on a virtual walking tour exploring Scottish poetry’s links to slavery via Edinburgh landmarks. Including Caribbean poetry
Podcast 2:“On Being” with Krista Tippett, interviewing Resmaa Menkem, episode titled ‘Notice the Rage: Notice the Silence.’ The two explore vulnerabilities, and inequalities heightened by the pandemic. They discuss the embodiment of intergenerational racialized trauma.
As always, we will be discussing how to be actively Anti-Racist and support one another.
New members to the group are always welcomed. It is not necessary to have engaged with all or any of the material. We are using this material to continue a journey, and as prompts to actively discuss Racism. It is always beneficial to come along listen and engage. We welcome your voice.
We hope to see you at our next meeting!
