IN PERSON Woodlands Climate Action 2021 Coffee Chats - Ecobricking

  • Woodlands Community Development Trust 66 Ashley Street Glasgow United Kingdom (map)

There is a lot to feel nervous about these days, and while the effects of the pandemic are often in the forefront of most of our minds, many of us are simultaneously combating anxiety related to the climate crisis.

Please join us for our weekly Climate Action 2021 Coffee Chats on our community terrace, where each week we will chat about a different topic relating to the climate crisis, to offer support, advice or even just a sympathetic ear as well as connect community members during these isolating times.

This week we will be discussing the practise of ecobricking. Ecobricking is a global movement responding to the crisis of plastic pollution in the environment. An ecobrick is a plastic PET bottle packed solid with clean and dry used plastic. Plastic is locked away in a PET bottle so that it does not degrade further into the microplastics that pollute our soil and waterways. The plastic bottle is filled to a set density so that it can be then used as a building block in either indoor modular units or outdoors in earth structures.

This week we will be asking if eco-bricks are a solution to plastic pollution and having a go at making one ourselves. Please bring along a clean and dry 1.5 litre plastic drinks bottle (please don't buy one though - look in your recycling bin or find one on the street) and any non-recyclable hard and soft plastic that you amass over the weekend. We will also provide some so don't worry if you don't have any plastic - that is a good thing!

Please join us! The climate chat will be hosted on our community terrace at 66 Ashley Street.

Email, text or call Xander on xander@woodlandscommunity.org.uk or 07708 474895 to register for this event for free.
