There is a lot to feel nervous about these days, and while the effects of the pandemic are often in the forefront of most of our minds, many of us are simultaneously combating anxiety related to the climate crisis.
Please join us for our weekly online Climate Action 2021 Coffee Chats, where each week we will chat about a different topic relating to the climate crisis, to offer support, advice or even just a sympathetic ear as well as connect community members during these isolating times.
This week we will be discussing climate justice in relation to migrant justice. Openly discussing how fluctuations in weather and global warming present inequities for different communities. Effecting the underprivileged first. Presenting realities directly caused by Climate Change such as food famines, whole nations being submerged in water, increased conflicts worldwide, mass wildfires.
Migrant, racial and climate justice are entangled. The health impact of climate change are not felt equally by all people. Those who have already been systematically made more vulnerable will experience these impacts first and worst.
Furthermore, we will talk about the impact of boarder regimes especially now with the UK government's announcement for harsh new plans to restrict people’s right to asylum in Britain this troubling subject is on our minds now more than ever. These inhumane policies announced last week make claiming asylum already a hellish trauma even tougher.
We will briefly touch on Woodlands Anti-Racist Community group also which have been meeting for the past year fortnightly. Presenting ways within our immediate community to further engage with combating racial oppression.
