There is a lot to feel nervous about these days, and while the effects of the pandemic are often in the forefront of most of our minds, many of us are simultaneously combating anxiety related to the climate crisis.
Please join us for our weekly online Climate Action 2021 Coffee Chats, where each week we will chat about a different topic relating to the climate crisis, to offer support, advice or even just a sympathetic ear as well as connect community members during these isolating times.
This week we will be discussing what has become a rather hot button topic within even the most passive of environmentalists - palm oil. The palm oil industry is responsible for a swathe of environmental and social injustices, yet as ubiquitous as this fact is palm oil is still present in such a broad range of commercial products from biscuits and crisps to shampoo and many, many more. With palm oil being so heavily integrated into the global supply chain, how would we go about removing it? Indeed, is removing it even the best option? Is reformation preferable to abolition in terms of sustainable palm oil production?
