Conversations on Cognitive Performance

believe-IN | BLETHER: How to take stock of your life? Goal setting and decision-making.

Goals setting and decision-making assert personal maturity. Goal setting and decision-making abilities are crucial skills in areas of common concern to adults. Decision-making is a mental and intellectual process because, whatever decisions are taken, are based on logical deliberations to make them rational. Intelligence, knowledge, experience, educational level, and mental facilities are essential to developing throughout life.

Do you want to take stock of your life? Come along for a Goal setting and decision-making session with believe-IN | Life Academy.

Regardless of whether you had contact with defining goals informally or formally, with specific tools (or not), this is an important issue, that is very often ignored, in adulthood, responsible for the sense of being lost, or not having a life purpose, causing fear and discomfort. Come along for a chat and a practical exercise on “How to define Life Goals”, in a relaxed and friendly environment, this is a chance to talk informally about something that affects us all. Bring a notebook and writing material with you to this session.

At a believe-IN | BLETHERS people, often strangers, gather to, discuss whatever life-changing theme we are covering, keeping in mind that life is a learning process!

Decision-making is a human and social process also because all human factors are to be kept into consideration, before final selection of any particular alternative, in the decision-making process.

Price: Event is donation-based, we hope you will make a voluntary donation, if you can, to cover the costs.

Booking: Space is limited so please get in touch to book your place: www.believeinmakeithappen.eventbrite.com.

ABOUT US
believe-IN | BLETHERS
* Imagine. Explore. Discover. Knowledge.*
One or two-hours conversations—in real life! Inspired by curiosity and knowledge towards adult development, is meant to promote self-questioning and change the way one sees the world (or not!).
By night or by day, one Blether, from each of our four main conversations, once a month. Pro-bono.

believe-IN | BLETHERS are a structured conversational process for knowledge-building and sharing towards personal development. Part of believe-IN | Life Academy, we have four main types of Conversation topics, drawn by the conception of Adult Development, Life-Span psychology, from which we create a Blether about whatever life-changing events & transitions we are covering.

- Conversations on Love, Ageing & Dying
- Conversations on Emotional Intelligence
- Conversations on Cognitive performance
- Conversations on Life-Changing & Personal Growth

As well as speaking and listening, individuals are encouraged to write down some of their conclusion and invited to share later on, whether in loco or on the private Facebook group called believe-IN | Blethers.

LIFE-EVENTS & TRANSITIONS IN ADULTHOOD
Adulthood life course holds both concepts of continuity and change, and life-events hallmarks in the human life cycle.

Life-changes, whether positive or negative, are a significant source of stress, anxiety, and fear. Life-Events & Transitions can lead to a psychological decline or turn into a personal growth opportunity.

A life-event, including non-events, are all those events capable of bringing significant disturbance to a person’s daily routine. Life-events imply discontinuity of a person’s life space requiring new behavioural responses, that can be slow and continuous as they can be fast and discrete. For this reason, demanding life-events appraised as threatening trigger affective responses of fear, anxiety, and stress, altering functions of regulatory and neuroendocrine systems.

Four groups of Life-Events; that are capable of changing a person's life, in adulthood.

- Family-related, including four types of events such as marriage, divorce, bereavement, childbirth.
- Work-Related, comprising unemployment, reemployment, retirement, relocation/migration.
- Health-related events include any physical illness or sudden disability that have implied major life changes.
- Non-events are those life events that should have happened at a certain age or stage, but it didn’t (e.g. marriage, children, etc)
- Non-events are those life events that should have happened at a certain age or stage, but it didn’t (e.g. marriage, children, etc)

Life-Events broadly accepted as stressful can, however, result in a far more profound and transformative psychosocial process called ‘transitions.

TRANSITIONS
Transitions are a type of change that presupposes personal discontinuity, acquisition of new assumptions and new behaviours or behavioural adjustments to novel situations, identity change, with positive effects as well as negative consequences. A transition is not an isolated occurrence, but a process over time, that may have started with a life-events but far more profound and transformative that represents a danger to psychological decline, nonetheless can also bring an opportunity to personal development.

OUR PURPOSE
believe-IN. Make it Happen!® is the Facilitator of Change to Individuals & Organizations in transition. Through believe-IN | Life Academy, endeavours to assist people in becoming more self-aware, more in control of their life, more empowered, and more able to use strategies to get them where they want to go. We act purposefully to stimulate conditions facilitating reflection and change, for effective decision-making.

The project, BLETHERS, are a believe-IN | Life Academy initiative, created to raise awareness to the impact of Life-Changing Events & Transitions, in adulthood, and its significant implications to wellbeing and mental health.

Change triggers stress, anxiety and fear promoting psychological decline. With this initiative, we aim to create a safe space, where people, gather to, discuss whatever life-changing theme we are covering, making available a learning opportunity by sharing and by observation. Participants can share their view over their own experience as to learn from other's experiences – this way we give them a voice, but also the listening capability, that will ultimately bring a sense of understanding.

believe-IN | Life Academy prevents psychological decline by supporting people going through life-changing events & transitions, step-by-step, while promoting personal growth, for greater well-being and mental health contributing to human development as a whole. We offer adult development intervention programs, life skills training, and workshops & events to individuals and organizations. “So, you believe-IN yourself, and you make the life you wish and deserve happen!” Join us, speak out and share your experience and learning with others, and learn from others.
