MORE INFO
Thinking about children’s reading in and out of school, please come and join a community conversation facilitated by literacy educator, Jess Anderson, PhD. Based on her doctoral research study into hierarchical and more egalitarian forms of reading development in primary schools, Jess will facilitate a conversation around fostering anti-racism in children’s development as readers.
Those who attend will have space to reflect on their own experiences of marginalisation and privilege in the reading world as children, and as adults (including, but not exclusively, as carers and teachers). We will consider collectively what we can learn from these experiences, and from the findings of the doctoral research, that might help forge anti-racism at home and in school.
Included in the conversation will be a book browse and read-aloud from a wonderful collection of children and young adult books, in which the ordinary and extraordinary lives of People/Children of Colour are centred.
Some light refreshments will be provided.
