Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures that are held for longer periods of time— three to five minutes.
Yin Yoga is the practice of floor based postures that apply moderate stress to the connective tissues—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments of the body—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
The passive nature of long help postures gives time for deeper reflection and provides a more meditative approach to yoga; it aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence and peace. However, it is not a replacement for meditation itself.
In addition to people seeking a calmer, quieter practice, Yin Yoga is an excellent style of yoga to complement more active forms of yoga and sports in particular for professional athletes.
