Outdoor Storytelling CPD for Glasgow Educators *SOLD OUT*

  • Woodlands Workspace 66 Ashley Street Glasgow United Kingdom (map)

A practical and dynamic introduction to the art of storytelling for educators who want to tell stories outside with young learners (3-10yrs)

About the course
Human brains are hard-wired to make sense of the world through listening to and sharing stories – we are storytelling animals!
During this fascinating session, you will learn how to:
- Identify where and when storytelling can be successfully incorporated into outdoor and woodland activities
- Source the perfect tales for your learners and environment
- Develop your own storytelling confidence through group games, camp fire improvisation and nature story games
Allison will provide stories suitable for pre-school and primary age children. You are also welcome to bring stories that you would like to learn/work on. She will facilitate group and individual mentoring, to help you learn stories easily and tell them with style.

About the Course Leader
Allison Galbraith is a professional storyteller and teacher who has been performing stories since 1984. She was trained by master storytellers from the Scottish travelling community and is a member of the Scottish storytelling forum and is their regional representative for Lanarkshire. Allison has combined her love of nature with storytelling and has delivered courses for Scottish Natural Heritage - Climate Change Conferences, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, The Woodland Trust, John Muir Trust, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Scottish Forestry. She works regularly for community gardens and achieved her Forest School Assistant certificate, in payment for running early years storytelling at The Children’s Wood, Glasgow.

She is the co-author of Dancing With Trees, Eco-Tales from the British Isles (History Press 2017). This book is a collection of twenty-eight stories from all over Britain and Ireland, with tips for telling, linking to the seasons, flora and fauna and suggestions for related environmental activities. She will be selling the book at the end of her session, for those interested, for £9.99.
